At the
2008 National Storytelling Conference
in Gatlinburg, TN on
August 7th - 10th,
there will be some
workshops of particular interest to PRO SIG members:
Branding Storytelling: Why and How We Have to Do It Now
Storytellers lament that the art is seen as "reading to children." Here is the basis for changing our "brand" and the reasons why we must do it now. Brands are made in the consumer’s mind as unique, proprietary (identified with a particular product or company), emotionally engaging, timeless and consistently delivered to a defined marketplace. This workshop is both a distillation of the Producer's & Organizer's tretreat and an extension of the fundamental discussion of why and how re-branding storytelling as a narrative and performance art form. Come, contribute and commit to the national campaign that's moving the art forward.
Other Kinds of Storytelling Events: Beyond the Festival Model
While storytelling festivals are wonderful, they are not the only type of storytelling event. Come learn about other kinds of storytelling events: two storytelling dinner series, one new, one in its ninth season; the beginnings of collaboration between a theatre and a storytelling group; a monthly series at a café; a fringe festival; and a long running storytelling radio show. Perhaps you’ll be inspired to create a new storytelling event in your own area.
